July 30, 2008 - Hard Morning

When I walked outside at 5:30, it was that feeling you get when you open the oven to see if the cookies are ready and all the hot air hits you in the face and takes your breath. It is remarkably warm, amazingly still and about 170% humidity. I never felt like I could catch my breath just from walking out there. All said, I only covered 1.6 miles in my 29:45 minutes. Don't feel like I received any benefit from this mornings walk/jog.

I am going to edit the really long post from yesterday and take off what Olivia's mom had to say. It is a good story, but you can click on her link and read it all. It takes up the whole first page and I am not a big fan of redundancy - I get enough of that.

Look for some work on the blog tonight. I am going to change the honored links to be clickable so you can go directly to the Caring Bridge or blog site for each person that has one. I know that sounds simple, but it is more work then you may think. Chalk that up as coming soon.

Leaving tomorrow to go to the beach for the weekend. I am excited as I am going to get to run on the very flat end of Fort Morgan Road while smelling the sea breeze. It will be a nice change from running here.

Please continue to pray for the people listed on the site. Also want to add my Mamaw who is in the hospital. She is 89 (I think) and they are running some test on her today. Also, Rachael and my girls head out to the beach today to get a head start. Please lift them up while they are on the road.

Fundraising is starting. I think I have $675 so far, so a little over 10%. Please consider donating to support the cause. I received a commitment from Moe's on Friday that they will host a night for me at the Alabaster location and donate 10% of the sale's. Once I get all of that worked out, I will post the details.

Team in Training will kick of recruiting next week for the winter races. If you have any desire to participate, and live in Alabama or NW Florida, email cindy.walton@lls.org. If you live somewhere else, click the link on the right and go to the official TNT site and request info. Your local chapter will contact you. If you ever wanted to do a marathon, you won't find a better cause and you have plenty of time train.

Cumulative miles since the start of training: 54.35 miles

Matt,

I don't really know how I found your blog, from someone from CaringBridge I am sure, but I am so moved by what you are doing. I tried to read your whole blog to figure our your connection to the LLS, but I never got that. All I know is that I am humbled by what you are doing.

My son Fuller is fighting leukemia. I cannot tell you what a life changing event this has been for us. We live at Children's Hospital. Our lives revolve around the results of a CBC. Fevers are the worst fear in the world.

Fuller is doing so good, primarily because of the support and prayers we have received through friends, loved ones, and others we don't even know.

Reading your blog I came across your family's webpage. Please tell Allison I am an artist and I know exactly what she means when she says we are messy. Tell her only the BEST artists are messy. My friends that I paint with always have to check me before I walk out of the studio because they know I will have paint all over my face. She is destined to be a wonderful artist, so keep motivating her!

I also started jogging in February as a result of seeing so many running in honor of Fuller. I know what you mean when you talk about the heat. I never thought I would look forward to cold weather, but I can't wait to run in a jacket!

Good luck with your running. You are doing such good work. I have seen first hand the work that the LLS is doing, and you are helping in that cause. THANK YOU and your family.

Sincerely,
Melissa Goldsmith
