December 21, 2008 - It's Cold

I deemed earlier in the day it was too cold to play golf. IF I had any sense that would also translate to it's too cold to run. But, I missed Thursday night due to a Christmas party, Friday was supposed to be rest, Saturday was supposed to be a long run, but I was stuck in the mud (Thanks Franklin!), so I had to run today. I actually decided I would make sure I got the long run in. Its roughly 37 degrees outside tonight.

I am still working on getting back into the swing of running, so I am still walking more than running. I increased running to 2:30 per cycle and decreased walking to 4:30. I will continue to adjust as I get back in the swing of things. I was supposed to run four miles - ended up only getting 3.83 miles in, but didn't realize it until I was already inside. I covered that in 58 minutes, roughly a 15 minute mile.

It's going to be cold again tomorrow, but I will try to get the normal two miles in and continue of the schedule.

Total time: 148 minutes
Total distance: 9.40 miles.

December 17 - Running in the Rain

The first night of running in the actual rain. I didn't really want to get out in it, but atleast it was warm out. Covered my two miles in 33 minutes and am updating now. That's about all tonight.

Total time: 90 minutes
Total distance: 5.57 miles.

December 16, 2008 - A New Start

Somehow I found the motivation to get started back on this journey last night. Granted, it was a slow start, but with the race at the end of April, and my acceptance of only tackling the half, I should have plenty of time to get this done. I figured the 2+ months I took off also means I need to start to running total of training miles back at the beginning.

Last night's run was in the light rain. I planned to do the intervals of walking for two minutes and then running for five. I have the walking part down. I ran all of the first five minute interval, but in the second on, I was unable to run even two minutes and then walked the rest of the time. I managed to cover 1.5 miles during my mostly walk of 24 minutes.

Tonight, it was sloppy outside again. I changed the intervals to five minutes of walking and two minutes of running. I will adjust each week until I get to running the majority of the time. For some reason my watch is not sending the info to my computer tonight, but I can just get the raw data of the training screen. Looks like I covered 2.07 miles in 33:12. Not setting any land records, but at least in motion.

Total time: 57 minutes
Total distance: 3.57 miles.

November 30, 2008 - Race Rescheduled

I still haven't over come my plantar facisitis (sp?) and Rachael is still struggling to get over her pneumonia. Re-commit was a few weeks ago for Phoenix, and there was no way we were going to be ready. Therefore, we have decided to refocus on the Country Music Marathon on in Nashville, TN on April 24. Our donation sites are also in the process of changing, but for the time being, I think you can still click on the old link and it will redirect you to the new one. I have to start running again no later than January 1, but I hope I feel some inclination to job a little before then - we'll see.

Since I have been off so long, I guess I also need to start over on my cumulative miles of training.

Just wanted to update. Will do so again once I get back to running.

September 30 - A Littles Delay

I haven't updated lately. The other problem is running has also been sporadic. Reality is the clock is ticking so I am about to have to take it up a notch. Total in the month since I updated has been 8.6 miles. Definitely need to get on with it.

September 2 - Spinning my Wheels

Always the oft bored, ADD self, I decided to try some different tonight for my workout. Rachael and I hit a 45 minute spin class. When we started, I thought that was a good idea. I managed to make the entire class without stopping, but I couldn't handle all the standing up. The burn in my quads was more than this boy could handle. We have been done for an hour and I feel pretty good. I was able to keep my heart rate at the aerobic state the entire time, balancing between 162 and 175, which is perfect for me. The downside to spinning, it that there is not distance. Supposedly, allegedly, the 45 minute class averages 15 miles. I looked back at my previous performances on the bike, where I rode at a much slower pace. Back in July, I rode 11 miles in 42 minutes and much less of a pace. Therefore, I accept the 15 miles for training purposes. I am probably really going to accept it when I see how sore I am in the morning.

Cumulative miles since the start of training: 98.50 miles.

September 1 - New Month

I forgot to post earlier. My running has been poor the last two weeks. I did make myself go run this afternoon and ran for 2 miles in 27 minutes. I have to get on pace because the real training starts this week.

Cumulative miles since the start of training: 83.50 miles.
